creating a painting

here is a series showing the creation of a painting based on the photograph below that I took of Havelock in New Zealand.

I have used complementary colours for the under-painting, orange for the sky and purple for the hills. I tried to photograph as I painted so I could look back to see what worked and what didn’t. However I got absorbed in the moment and forgot to keep photographing……

some how this doesn’ t work, I think the blues are incorrect for the depth perception so will start again.

Better choice of blue hue, it helps to work on both the sky and clouds at the same time.
